Species
The following are the Nepenthes which I consider species.
(This list needs to be updated since it is quite dated. There are plenty of new
species that is missing from the list.) This
information was tabulated from several sources, and I have tried to consolidate it as much
as possible. The names below the species are the people who formally described the plant,
and the next line denotes the elevation which the plants have been found growing.
The species I include are those recognized by Jebb and Cheek in their skeletal revision. The following exceptions to this are:
N. borneensis has been removed due to Charles Clarkes reduction of it as N. boschiana.
N. faizaliana has been been elevated back to species rank.
N. fallax is included. (Actually, it may end up that stenophylla gets renamed to fallax, as it is also believed that it was used first to describe the plants we know as stenophylla.)
I have included the recently described N. mindanoensis, as well as N. coplandii and N. philippinensis.
Nepenthes adnata

1000M
Nepenthes alata
Blanco
800M-2400M
The range is quite variable as there are many forms. You should attempt to aquire the
approximate growing range for your variety from supplier.

Nepenthes ampullaria
JACK
0M-1000M (Jebb and Cheek report 0M-2100M in their revision)
I can find no reports of ampullaria in which the plant grows significantly higher in
altitude than about 1100M. I grow many varieties, and they all do best in a lowland
environment. I doubt that any ampullaria that naturally grows in a lowland environment
could grow in conditions at 2100M. If ampullarias do grow that those elevations, then
those populations of plants may have to be cultivated differently than the lowlands.

This may be a variety of N. mirabilis. In any case, use the 1500M elevation as a
cultivation guide for it.

300M-1200M (Clarke lists a range between 500M-800M, but this plant is being found in
may places in Borneo, and it probably has quite an elevation range as well. Kurata
mentions it as an unnamed species in his Nepenthes of Mt Kinabalu book in 1976. Although
only formally described in 1988 (and ) it is becoming clear that this is a rather
widespread plant.
