Nepenthes Lamii Cultivation

Nepenthes lamii is an ultrahighland mountain plant. It reportedly grows at one of the highest known altitudes of any Nepenthes.

Cultivating Ease - Challenge (In all actuality, the plant is quite easy if you can keep the temps cool. Else, it's difficult)

Type - This plant is an ultra-highlander. It grows in very high elevations where the night time temperatures can drop near freezing.

Temperature - Keeping the temperatures in the 70's during the day, with a night time drop into the 50's is ideal.   If grown in a greenhouse, it should be placed next to the swamp cooler. I have grown this plant as an intermediate for over a year, although the plant suddenly started growing smaller. Growing the plant as an intermediate should be done on a temporary basis. (As in, a few weeks at the most.)

Humidity - The daytime humidity level should be kept above 70%. The nighttime humdity should be a saturated 100%. (Moisture should condense on the leaves.)

Light - I keep my plants in bright light to full sun (diffused).

Moisture - Keep the plant moist to wet. Do not let the soil dry out, as this can cause the roots to heat up.

Soil - Long Fiber Sphagnum

Size - N. lamii plants have proven to be small growers so far for me, although I have only been growing them for a few years. As most lamii plants are small tissue culture plants, you can grow them safely for at least a few years in a small terrarium. They will not tolerate hot  temps at all. Larger plants may prove to be more durable in this respect, as other species are. But the best results for this plant is a solid highland environment.

Propagation -  I have not attempted to propagate this plant yet.
