Nepenthes Hirsuta Cultivation

Nepenthes hirsuta is a lowland plant being found on the island of Borneo. It is nearly identical to N. hispida.

Cultivating Ease - Very Easy

Type - Lowland

Temperature - Keeping it warm at all times will make it grow fairly fast. Although it can tolerate intermediate temperatures, it should be kept between 75 and 95 degrees farenheit for optimum growth. Some growers have reported success in growing the plant as a highlander as well.

Humidity - Should be very high at all times.  Humidity should be above 75% at all times for optimum growth.

Light - Shaded conditions to lighted conditions. I use diffused light and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Moisture - Keep the plant wet. Do not let the soil dry out.

Soil - Long Fiber Sphagnum

Size - The plant can grows compactly for some time.  It is an ideal candidate for larger grow chambers (4'x4'x8') under lights, or in a stovehouse.

Details: The key to this plant is keeping it warm with very high humidity. It will pitcher well under these conditions. This plant can easily be confused with N. hispida. The plant will sometimes form many smaller plants from around the mother plant, and these can be separated and potted up.

Propagation -  I have not yet propagated this plant other than dividing clumps of plants.

Forms - There are at least a couple of pitcher varieties, although none are formerly known at this time.
