Nepenthes Burbidgeae Cultivation
Ne
penthes burbidgeae is a highland /ultrahighland mountain plant which is medium difficult to grow well. It's not as demanding as N. rajah, but you must give it highland conditions at a minimum for it to do well. I usually suggest growing burbidgeae before attempting a rajah. If you have problems with burbidgeae, you'll have a lot of problems with rajah. If burbidgeae grows well for you, rajah will probably also do well with the same conditions.

Cultivating Ease - Medium. Much easier for growers who live where the nighttime temperatures fall into the 50's in the summer. Can be grown as an intermediate for a period of time, but needs highland conditions to do well.

Type - This plant is an highland to ultrahighlander. It grows in high elevations where the night time temperatures drop considerably. It grows near N. rajah, so growing conditions for rajah work for burbidgeae as well.

Temperature - Keeping the temperatures in the mid 80's with a night time drop into the 50's is needed.  Keeping the daytime temps out of the 90's helps, especially if this causes the humidity to significantly drop. Daytime temperatures should ideally be restricted to the mid 80s. If grown in a greenhouse, it should be placed next to the swamp cooler.

Humidity - The daytime humidity level should be kept above 70%. The nighttime humidity should be 80% or higher. The plant can tolerate a few hours of very low humidity (40%) for a few hours during the cooldown process.

Light - I keep my plants in bright light.

Moisture - Keep the plant moist to wet.

Soil - Long Fiber Sphagnum

Size - Burbidgeae's can produce some enormous pitchers. The plant appears to be a scrambler when mature.

Details: This is not a beginners plant unless you live in a cooler environment. Its a good plant to grow before attempting other ultrahighlanders, such as villosa, rajah, and lamii.

Propagation -  I have not attempted to cut this plant, but reports are that it is very difficult to get cuttings to strike.

Forms - Only the typical form has been mentioned.
