Nepenthes Bellii Cultivation

Nepenthes bellii is an attractive lowland, and requires lowland temperatures and humidity to survive.

Cultivating Ease - Moderately Easy

Type - Lowlander

Temperature - Keeping it warm at all times will make it grow well. Although it can tolerate cool temperatures, it should be kept between 75 and 95 degrees farenheit for optimum growth.

Humidity - Should be very high at all times. Does not appreciate low humidity, as the leaves will wilt and the pitchers will dry out. Humidity should be above 70% at all times for optimum growth.

Light - Shaded conditions.  It grows very well in a large chamber under lights.

Moisture - Keep the plant wet. Do not let the soil dry out.

Soil - Long Fiber Sphagnum

Size - The plant appears to be a small scrambler, and is ideal for a terrarium.

Details: Forms that I grew from the 1990's were transplant wimps. They suffered from root shock quite easily. Once established, the key to growing theseforms were to leave them alone.  Fortunately, the forms currently in cultivation are not nearly as sensitive.

Propagation - I have yet to cut this plant.

Forms - I have seen at least two forms, although no forms are currently recognized. The newest form has pitchers that are much longer than the typical form.
