Nepenthes Aristolochioides Cultivation
Nepenthes aristolochioides is a peculiar highland plant, producing "bird house" style pitchers in which the pitcher mouth is located on the side of the pitcher.
Cultivating Ease - Medium
Type - This plant is a highlander. It can live in a wide range of temperatures temporarily.
Temperature - Treat this plant as a true highland. It grows well as an intermediate for months, but in the long term it needs cooler nights.
Humidity - 70% during the day, 80% at night. It can handle periods of low humidity (40%-50%) during the cooldown process.
Light - Bright light to full (diffused) sunlight. It grows very well in a chamber or terrarium under lights.
Moisture - Keep the plant moist. Do not keep the roots very wet for long periods of time, but dont allow the soil to dry out either.
Soil - Long Fiber Sphagnum
Size - The plant will eventually start climbing, but its essentially a small plant ideal for a terrarium.
Details: N. aristolochioides produces pitchers that look like bird houses that are constructed out of gourds. The opening of the pitcher is on the side of the pitcher, and not directly on top. The pitchers look like inflated bladders, indeed they somewhat resemble colorful bladderwort pitchers. Upper pitchers look similar to the lowers, except they are slightly elongated. The only plant in which it is related appears to be N. klosii.
Propagation - I have yet to propogate this plant.
Forms - I only know of the typical form.
