

In this section of the bog, the ground was covered with S. psittacina. This
is one of the few sites where this species displays so
well in this
part of the South, mainly due to very open ground. Similar to S. rosea, this
species is most abundant and most easily
seen where the ground is kept quite clear. Unlike S. rosea, S. psittacina can
grow in a much drier and much wetter habitat.
At this location, the most dense stands, and the best developed plants, were in
locations which were open and cleared, and had a
water table right at the soil level, so that the water was just visible above
the soil.
