A final shot from the Roscoe Bog before we move on to the next location. From
the close shots of S. leucophylla, you can kind of
get an idea about how variable this species can be. Although you may find that
many plants in a small location may somewhat closely
resemble each other in form and coloration, there is always a good deal of
variation even within a very small stand. This contrasts
with most species of Sarracenia, where there is little variation within a
particular stand of plants.
These highly variable traits could be due to massive hybridizations with
other Sarracenia species in the past, causing plants within a stand
to reproduce highly variable traits.
